Meet Lila
Meet Lila. She’s 16, in grade 11, loves her three dogs, and is a very talented artist.
She draws, paints, writes, and is especially interested in the world of fantasy and dragons! Lila’s creativity goes beyond just drawing. It’s not uncommon for her to write a story, then draw the characters and maps to go with it.
When she isn’t working on her art, Lila loves to go to the movies with friends, volunteers at her school library, and enjoys spending time chilling at home and listening to music. She also loves knitting and crocheting. She taught herself and even creates her own patterns!
But everything changed in the spring of 2022.
Lila began experiencing knee pain. The results of an x-ray led to an urgent CT scan and MRI that revealed the unimaginable. Lila had cancer.
Since then, Lila has undergone rigorous chemotherapy and a complex operation to remove and replace her knee joint and tibia to remove her tumour. This affected a major nerve in her leg which caused Lila to lose the ability to lift her foot.
But Lila never lost hope, and bravely battled through it all with her family by her side.
Now she is cancer-free, and ready to dream BIG! She is dreaming about an art space in her home where she can bring all her creative ideas to life! Lila has big goals for the future as well: she wants to pursue a career in art. So, for her dream, it only makes sense to have a studio full of supplies, creative outlets, and inspiration!
“We’re just so touched and humbled to know there are people with such big hearts that want to help make Lila’s dream come true,” Lila’s mom, Linda shared. “When her dream comes true I think she’s probably going to live in that art space. It’s going to be amazing for her.”
Lila has been through a lot early in life. With your help, we can return some of the moments she lost out on while in treatment and make her dream a reality!
