Hazel's Dream Come True

Hazel’s Dream Journal

Hazel’s Dream came true! Hazel and her sister, Violet had a wonderful time with their parents at Disney World, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios.

Day One

The kids were troopers through the airport and flight out of Winnipeg, and we hit the ground running with a FULL day at Magic Kingdom – fireworks included. Violet proved to be more of a thrill seeker, but Hazel did find a few rides she loved. We rode Winnie the Pooh and Splash Mountain twice! The kids also liked Pirates of the Caribbean. The fireworks at Cinderella’s castle were a sight to behold and we were so glad we stayed until dark to see them.

Day Two

We all agreed that SeaWorld was our favourite! The VIP Tour was the best thing we could have done! It was nice to have a plan for the day with someone to show us around. Our tour guide, Meg was excellent! She led us on an eight-hour private tour.

We started out meeting and feeding Gunner the sea lion – my personal favourite – and then watched a hilarious Sea Lion & Otter show. We got to go behind the scenes and pet some sharks! Next, we watched the Orca show – although Meg had reserved seats for us, Hazel elected to sit in the splash zone. It was more of a deluge than a splash! After that we got up close and personal for a picture with the Orcas.

Next, we moved over to the Dolphin tank to see an amazing Dolphin show – they were so strong and athletic! Meg took us backstage to meet a Dolphin trainer who let us feed and pet Dexter the Dolphin. After that, we had a delicious lunch with the fish at Sharks Underwater Grill. At the penguin habitat, we saw all sorts of penguins – it was cold, even for us Canadians! At the stingray lagoon, the rays didn’t seem to want to be touched at first. When Meg brought some shrimp to feed them, Hazel got to realize the part of her dream of touching stingrays!

Day Three

Today we visited Animal Kingdom! The kids didn’t feel like going on any rides, but they really enjoyed the animal safari! Violet saw her favourite animal for the first time – a cheetah! We also got to see elephants, hippos, rhinos, and giraffes. None of us had ever seen them in person before! Hazel really wanted to go to the pool, so we headed back to the resort around dinner time.

Day Four

At Universal Studios, the family favourite was the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! We spend most of our time exploring Diagon Alley. All four of us bought wands – Hazel got a ‘hazel’ wood wand, how perfect! Hazel loves to draw, so we got her a Disney World journal and a quill from Diagon Alley. We also tried some frozen Butterbeer, and the kids went around casting spells. The kids also had a blast riding the minions virtual rollercoaster!

Day Five

We went to Hollywood studios. Rene was excited to see the Star Wars exhibits. We took in the sites, Rene got a few souvenirs, and we moved on. We rode Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railroad in the Chinese theatre and Hazel and Violet loved it! While exploring the Toy Story area, Violet and I rode Slinkey the Dog and had a lot of fun.

Day Six

On our final park day, we went to Islands of Adventure. Again, Harry Potter was our favourite! We got some souvenirs and rode the Hogwarts Express roundtrip to Diagon Alley and back to Hogsmeade. Rene and I both rode Hagrid’s Motorbike and I think that was my favourite of all the rides on the whole trip. Hazel picked up a few gifts for her best friend who loves Harry Potter – she’s excited to give them to her for her birthday soon.

That evening, the girls and I saw the Give Kids the World Park while Rene packed. We rode the train and played in the arcade.

Thank you so much for fulfilling Hazel’s dream trip to Disney World!
