Dream Kid Kingston is full of energy! He’s a smart and kind 11-year-old who can make friends with anyone he meets. Kingston loves skateboarding, he’s getting pretty close to being able to do a kickflip! He also loves soccer, animals, clay sculpting, and video games.
Even though Kingston has a lot of energy, he’s been through some extremely tough times. Kingston was diagnosed with leukemia in October. Before that, he was a super healthy kid – always active rarely sick. On Thanksgiving weekend, however, Kingston’s family started to see a change. They took him to a walk-in clinic, and they gave him some antibiotics for a viral infection. When he wasn’t getting any better, Kingston went into the hospital and within 24 hours, he was already in the ICU, and diagnosed with leukemia.
“The first couple of months were extremely difficult,” Kingston’s dad shared. “Lots of ups and downs with how the chemo and medications were working with him. But Kingston is resilient – the biggest thing is that he’s been in really good spirits through all this.”
Kingston is a people person – he’s always making people laugh and smile. Whenever he sees the nurses at the hospital he’s always got a story or something to share with them. His dad says Kingston always thinks about other people before himself. Even when his family is having an emotional time coping with the seriousness of his illness, Kingston does everything he can to bring their spirits up.
While he’s still taking his medical journey day by day, and taking chemo cycle by cycle, Kingston has something exciting to look forward to: a dream come true!

Kingston’s dream is to have his very own gaming room, complete with a gaming PC and a driving setup for racing games! Kingston’s vision is a room painted with clouds and a sleek, white PC, keyboard, and mouse – it’ll feel like the wind is rushing past him when he’s racing in one of his favourite games, Gran Turismo.
“He’s been ecstatic,” Kingston’s dad says. “Seeing him happy is what’s most important.”
A Message from Emergent Biosolutions:
Emergent BioSolutions is committed to Giving, Investing and Volunteering in our Emergent communities, and does this through our Emergent GIVES social responsibility program, which is one of the ways that we bring about change for families and communities. Through financial donations and volunteer activities, Emergent works with partner organizations to make a difference and support the long-term goals of the charity.
Emergent Winnipeg’s partnership with The Dream Factory, a charity that transforms the lives of children with critical illnesses by granting their dreams, is one of those important partnerships.
Your contributions to Month of Dreams campaigns in the past have helped fulfill many dreams, like sending Lily to meet Hope and Winter (“Dolphin Tale” dolphins at Clearwater Marine Aquarium), sending Matthew to have fun at Disney World, fulfilling Marek’s big dream to go on a one-of-a-kind camping adventure with his family, and Greysen’s dream to visit London, England! Last year, Emergent Biosolutions supported Emily’s Dream to visit Australia! We’re excited to share that last December, Emily took her trip down under and enjoyed every moment!
This year, the Fundraising Campaign will support Kingston’s dream come true! During the campaign we will raise funds through online donations, online purchase of virtual medals, and an eGIVE matching donation commitment.
Let’s make more dreams come true!
