Meet Zachary

A busy guy who loves the outdoors and lots of pie!

Zachary’s mom Amanda describes him as a “busy, happy, and affectionate boy” who loves being outside and staying active. At 10 years old, some of Zachary’s favourite activities including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, swimming and just having fun with his family.

“He loves throwing rocks in the lake,” says Amanda, “he could do it for hours on end.” His favourite food is “anything in ‘pie format’” and he loves all things musical.

“Zachary loves hugs and has the ability to make everyone feel loved. He has an innate sense of character and somehow seems to know when people need affection.”

Zachary was born with a genetic mutation and spent the first 10 months of his life largely in the hospital. Zachary’s family knew that the condition caused Zachary to experience coordination issues and seizures, but it wasn’t until he was 8 years old that they were given a name for it: Dravet Syndrome.

Dravet Syndrome is described as a rare genetic dysfunction of the brain that typically begins in the first year of life. It is characterized by frequent seizures triggered by hot temperatures or fever.

He has an innate sense of character and somehow seems to know when people need affection.”

As a result, Zachary and his family have never been on a family vacation. For Zachary and his family, that first ever family vacation would be a dream come true.

Zachary’s dream is to travel to Vancouver, BC and go on as many adventures as possible: hikes, whale watching, skipping rocks - you name it! They will have an entire week to explore beautiful British Columbia and enjoy time spent together as a family.

Thank you - for helping us make Zachary’s dream come true. We couldn’t do it without you!
