Meet Angel
Letter from A Dream Parent:
Angel was born on May 15, 2015. She was born extremely early — at just 24 weeks. She just couldn’t wait to see the world.
When she was born, Angel weighed 1lb 3 oz. (or 645 grams). Due to her early birth, she has an extensive medical history of issues. Her life started with a hospital stay of 290 days and 3 re-admissions before finally being able to be at home. She has since had 9 surgeries.
The biggest issue facing Angel is that her development has affected many parts of her body: her kidneys, brain, and lungs are all underdeveloped and present Angel with difficult health challenges like lung disease, pneumonia, and a seizure disorder. She is currently active on the transplant list for a new kidney.
Angel is not mobile and unable to talk, but we know what she wants and she understands when we talk to her.
Angel also has cerebral palsy, and has different equipment to help her with her mobility. Right now, we’re eagerly waiting for her new wheelchair and are very excited to start using it. We’re hoping that it will help her coordination develop and give her a greater sense of independence.
Despite all that she’s been through, Angel is a very happy girl. She loves to laugh, smile and dance — often pointing to things and learning all about them. When she points at something, she loves for us to tell her what colour it is.
She’s also a big Wiggles fan — she has a few DVD’s that we have watched over and over, she loves them. She also loves Blue’s Clues and Thomas and Friends. A few years ago I bought tickets for us to go to the Wiggles concert when they came to town. At first she was a little apprehensive, but then she got a wave from her favourite Wiggles, Emma and Simon, and she was so happy.
Angel is the ruler of the house, and adores her brother Kain. When he would go to school and come back, she would start her chatter as soon as she saw him. It was almost as if she was telling him about her day and asking him where he was. Their bond is so precious.
Angel is truly a special gift to our family. She loves getting hugs, and especially when we do a family hug. She loves car rides, being out and about, and in general just loves to be a social butterfly.
It’s been difficult with COVID-19, as Angel has not really been able to go anywhere or have new experiences. We really think that she would love camping, and that’s why her dream come true is for a camper for us to take her on a few new adventures.
Since she loves being on the go and being out in the world with her family, we think this would be a perfect Dream come true for her.
We take life day-by-day with Angel. She has gone through so much and continues to fight a very difficult battle. Yet somehow she still tries every day to be the same happy, funny little girl that we know and love. It would be a dream come true to be able to make more happy memories with our Angel this summer.
